BIMCO started reporting from 30 September 2020, a series of articles, informing members of what to expect in the revised International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes (IMSBC) Code (Amendment 05-19), which will come into force on 1 January 2021. This is the 7th and last article in the series to assist members in getting ready for the revised Code.

BIMCO online Solid Bulk Cargo section has been updated. There are two cargo databases available now; one containing the current IMSBC Code in force ( Amendment 04-17) and the other contains cargoes under Amendment 05-19. It should be noted that Amendment 04-17 remains mandatory until 31 December 2020. Notwithstanding that Amendment 05-19 will enter into force on 1 January 2021, contracting member states or governments to the SOLAS Convention can apply part or whole of the amendment into their national legislation on a voluntary basis.
To view the above amendments, please go to the online BIMCO Solid Cargo Database.
For those who are not familiar with the IMSBC Code but need to have an over-arching view of the Code and its main requirements, the BIMCO basic IMSBC Code Step-by-Step Guide chart will be of useful guidance and there are two charts; one for Amendment 04-17 and the other for Amendment 05-19.
The IMSBC Code does not have individual listings of cargoes under the various classification groups, which can make checking of your cargo that you are fixing a cumbersome task, in particular if you wish to know if your cargo belongs to the Group B classification for dangerous cargoes, or Group A cargoes that liquefy or it is a non-dangerous cargo (Group C) which would be safe to carry. To assist members in this regard, BIMCO has prepared these group listings of cargoes exclusively for members’ use. When you do find the cargo that you are looking for under a particular listing, with an instant click on the cargo, this will lead you straight to the mandatory carriage requirements of that cargo.
To view the listings, please go to the BIMCO's Group listings of cargoes.
Veritas Petroleum Services (VPS) publish regular Bunker Alerts based entirely on fuel samples and have kindly permitted BIMCO’s Members to access this information.
The Bunker Alerts are not intended to be an evaluation of overall bunker quality in the port or area concerned, but usually highlight a specific parameter within the fuel which has raised a quality issue.
